Job Description

This HR Advisor role is focused on delivering excellent, consistent HR operational support across the employee lifecycle with an emphasis on employee relations (ER), wellbeing and manager capability building. You will work closely with the HR Business Partner and People Services Team to provide day-to-day HR advice and pragmatic solutions for managers and employees. Key elements of the role include casework support and guidance for disciplinary, grievance and absence management processes, coordinating occupational health referrals, and ensuring HR policy is applied fairly and consistently.

As a visible first point of contact, you’ll coach managers on people management techniques and deliver hands-on training on HR processes to build soft skills across the business. This includes creating and updating standard documents such as starter packs, contract templates and standard letters, as well as preparing HR data and reports to inform local and central HR decisions. You’ll liaise with third-party recruitment suppliers to support resourcing, manage administrative tasks efficiently and contribute to continuous improvement projects that strengthen HR delivery.

We expect the successful candidate to demonstrate strong judgement, sound employee relations knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills. The role is autonomous: you will be trusted to prioritise workload, escalate appropriately to the HR Business Partner, and work collaboratively across teams. You will also play a part in wellbeing and occupational health activities, supporting colleagues with access to appropriate support channels and contributing to a positive employee experience. A full UK driving licence is required to support occasional travel across local sites.

This position provides excellent exposure to a wide range of HR activities in a supportive yet busy environment, ideal for someone seeking to expand practical HR skills while enjoying flexible working arrangements.

Eligibility & How to Apply

To be considered for this vacancy you must be CIPD part-qualified or fully CIPD qualified and bring demonstrable operational HR experience, ideally with hands-on involvement in employee relations casework. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential — you will write letters, reports and advice notes — and you must be comfortable coaching managers and running short training sessions. A flexible, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to consistent policy application are key. The role requires a valid UK driving licence for occasional travel.

How to apply — step by step:

  1. Prepare your CV: Ensure your CV highlights HR casework experience, ER examples, training or coaching delivered, and any HR systems or reporting you have managed. Note your CIPD status and confirm your availability for 20 hours per week.
  2. Write a concise cover note: In 200–300 words explain why you are interested in a part-time, hybrid HR Advisor role, how you manage ER cases, and one recent example of a manager coaching or training intervention you led (outcomes are helpful).
  3. Visit the official application page: Click the Apply Now link below to go to the employer’s application portal. Complete any online form and upload your CV and cover note. Ensure contact details are current so the hiring team can arrange an interview.
  4. Availability and interview: Be ready to discuss flexible working patterns (three full days or spread across four/five days). The selection process may include a competency interview and a short practical exercise focussing on an ER scenario or manager coaching case.
  5. Checks and start: If successful you will be invited to provide references and complete standard pre-employment checks. Onboarding includes HR system access, local induction and a schedule for working on site in Aldershot (typically three days a week).

The employer encourages applications from candidates seeking part-time hours and values diversity of experience. If you require reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, include a short note in your application or use the contact details on the application page.

Role Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Activities

On a typical week you might split your 20 hours across focused tasks: advising on ER casework and follow-up actions, delivering 1:1 manager coaching and short process workshops, updating HR documentation and starter packs, liaising with occupational health providers, and coordinating with recruitment partners. You’ll prepare weekly or monthly HR metrics and provide insight to local business leaders to aid decision-making. The role demands practical, timely advice and a calm, credible presence during sensitive employee conversations.

In addition to casework, you will be expected to contribute to process improvement activity — refining handoffs between People Services and local teams, streamlining standard letters and contract templates, and helping implement small HR projects that improve clarity and reduce admin time. The role provides variety and the chance to influence how HR supports the business at a local level.

Benefits & Working Arrangements

  • Pro-rata salary: £38,000 per annum (paid proportionally for 20 hours/week)
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata) with the option to buy/sell holiday
  • Contributory company pension plan with employer match up to 6% and life assurance
  • Employee assistance programme, wellbeing check-ins and health support access
  • Shopping discount scheme, reward and recognition programmes
  • Free on-site parking and a supportive hybrid working policy (three days in office in Aldershot)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is the 20-hour week fixed or can I request more/less hours?
A: The vacancy is advertised as 20 hours per week. The employer is open to discussing how those hours are arranged (three full days or shorter days across four/five), but permanent changes to weekly hours would be subject to business needs and agreement during offer stage.

Q: What evidence of ER experience should I include in my application?
A: Provide concise examples of ER cases you’ve supported (e.g., absence management, disciplinaries, grievances), your role in the process, actions taken and outcomes. Highlight any coaching you provided to managers and any successful outcomes that improved performance or wellbeing.

Q: Will training be provided for systems and processes?
A: Yes — the People Services Team and HR Business Partner will support onboarding. You will receive system access, documentation and initial training. The role also includes delivering training to managers, so experience delivering short workshops is valuable.

Q: Can I request flexible start dates or part-year working patterns?
A: The employer typically negotiates start date and any flexible working arrangements with the successful candidate. If you need a delayed start or a specific pattern, mention this in your application and discuss it during interview.
