Job Description

As a Graduate Transport Planner, you will become part of a well-established professional services team, delivering impactful transport and civil engineering solutions across both public and private sectors. Your role will involve a mix of technical work and collaborative tasks, allowing you to develop a broad skill set that includes travel planning, consulting, report preparation, field visits, data analysis, and stakeholder communication.

Core responsibilities include managing new and exciting small to medium scale projects from inception through to delivery. You will assist senior planners and engineers by preparing technical reports, carrying out transport impact assessments, modelling traffic data and analysing travel behaviour. You’ll also respond to ad-hoc requests from clients, internal teams or regulatory bodies, often working to tight deadlines. In many cases, you’ll travel to project sites, attend meetings, conduct surveys, collect field data and validate information to ensure the work meets professional and regulatory standards.

You’ll gain exposure to industry best practices. Mentorship from seasoned experts will help you understand how transport planning integrates with civil engineering and environmental considerations. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams including urban designers, environmental scientists, highway engineers, and local government stakeholders. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential as you coordinate with project partners, clients, contractors and regulatory agencies.

This graduate role is hands-on and varied. On a typical week, you might spend time in the office working on modelling software or drafting reports; then spend part of your time on site visits, attending client consultations or performing traffic or travel surveys. You will receive feedback and guidance on technical work, standards of practice, and professional conduct. You’ll steadily build confidence and capability to tackle more complex projects as you progress.
