Job Description

The Event Assistant & Social Media Content Creator will be an integral part of MSA Collective. You will work across varied events including exhibitions in the MSA Gallery, workshops, lectures and public talks. Your creativity will be central: from designing graphics and visuals for social media to filming and photographing live events. You’ll maintain consistency with the School’s identity, ensuring all materials align with established branding guidelines. Your role will involve both online and physical media: creating digital content such as motion graphics, short-form videos, photographs, social media posts, and designing printed materials like posters, brochures, and handbooks.

Besides content creation, you’ll also assist in practical event preparation—installing exhibitions, setting up venues, overseeing printing and distribution of promotional materials, helping brand events, and attending events to capture visual content. Basic editing of your photography/video work will also be expected. The schedule is flexible: typically up to 3 hours per week, increasing during event weeks. The role starts October 2025 and runs through 31 July 2026, covering the full academic year. You’ll only be required to work during weeks where events are planned.

Eligibility & How to Apply

To qualify, you must be a current student at Manchester Metropolitan University. You should have strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite—especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign—plus experience or interest in motion graphics and video editing. Basic photography, video capture/editing skills are essential. A good visual sense and knowledge of branding in architectural education are advantageous. You’ll also need to have experience or interest in event organisation.

To apply, please prepare examples of your work: graphic design pieces, photographic or video content, motion-graphics if available. Include these in a portfolio or via shared links. Complete the application form via the “Apply” button, supplying your contact details, academic info, and your portfolio/work examples. The deadline is 11:59pm on Tuesday 7 October 2025. If you require any adjustments or support for the application process (e.g. accessibility needs), contact jobs4students@mmu.ac.uk. MSA and Manchester Met value equity, diversity and inclusion; all students are encouraged to apply.

FAQs

  • Do I need previous video editing experience?
Some basic editing experience is preferred—simple cuts, cropping, maybe colour adjustment—but full professional level is not required. We provide guidance and expect you to learn on the job.
  • Will I always work 3 hours per week?
No. The typical commitment is up to 3 hours/week, but during event-heavy weeks it may be more. Weeks without events may require little to no hours.
  • Can non-students apply?
This role is only open to current Manchester Metropolitan University students. Non-students are unfortunately not eligible.
  • What should I include in my portfolio?
Include samples of graphic design (social media graphics, posters, digital assets), any photography or videography you’ve done (events, projects), and video/motion sketches if available. If you have branding or layout work, those help too.
