Job Description
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Nursery Practitioner to become part of our bilingual Early Years team in Wirral. As a key member of staff, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment for young children, supporting both their developmental and linguistic growth. Our nursery has been rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted, and we believe in delivering high-quality early learning experiences that respect children’s individuality and cultural backgrounds.
In this role, you will support the daily routine of the nursery: greeting children, planning and facilitating engaging activities, supervising play, and helping with meals and rest times. You’ll build strong relationships with children, their parents or carers, and your colleagues. As a key person, you will track each child’s learning and development, complete observations, maintain records, and work with families to ensure children reach their full potential.
Working in a bilingual setting offers a unique opportunity: while delivering the standard early years curriculum, you will incorporate dual-language support, helping children develop skills in two languages. You’ll assist with planning age-appropriate creative, play-based activities, ensuring that diversity is embedded in all we do. Health & Safety, safeguarding, and maintaining a clean, well-organised environment are essential parts of your responsibilities.
Some of your day-to-day duties will include:
- Supporting the nursery’s daily schedule, routines, and operations
- Building respectful, warm, and effective relationships with children, parents, and the wider staff team
- Serving as a key person: observing, assessing, and extending children’s learning and development
- Planning and implementing both indoor and outdoor activities that are age-appropriate, creative, bilingual, and stimulating
- Ensuring all safety, hygiene, safeguarding, and wellbeing standards are met consistently
- Maintaining necessary paperwork: assessments, learning journals, incident reports, attendance records
- Keeping the environment clean, safe, organised and conducive to exploration and learning
This is a part-time position offering approximately 26.25 hours per week over three days, though full-time hours may be available for the right candidate. The hours are designed to give you a good work-life balance, with some flexibility. There are many additional benefits including CPD and progression opportunities, extra time off for your birthday, staff discounts, and annual bonuses. Christmas closure is scheduled from 23rd December to 2nd January.
Eligibility & How to Apply
If you think this role could be for you, here are the required qualifications, skills, and the application process explained step-by-step:
- Qualifications: You must hold an Ofsted-recognised Level 3 in Childcare or Early Years Education. Candidates with Level 2 may be considered only if they are willing to work towards Level 3. You should have up-to-date Paediatric First Aid and DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, as well as safeguarding training.
- Experience: Prior experience in a nursery or childcare setting is essential. You should have worked supporting young children’s learning and development, engaging in play activities, planning, and maintaining environment safety. Experience in bilingual settings is a strong advantage.
- Skills & Personal Qualities: Strong communication skills, kind-hearted and patient nature, creativity in planning activities, ability to work well in a team, and a genuine passion for early childhood education. You should be able to inspire children and support their growing curiosity in both languages our setting uses.
- Application Steps:
- Review this job post thoroughly to ensure you meet the qualification and experience criteria.
- Prepare your CV highlighting early years experience, any bilingual experience, relevant qualifications, and any safeguarding or first aid certificates.
- Write a brief covering letter or statement outlining why you want to work at a bilingual nursery and how you would contribute to children’s learning.
- Submit your application through the link below before the deadline. Early applicants may be invited to interview sooner.
- If selected, you may be asked to complete a short activity during the interview to showcase how you plan engaging early years activities.
- Next Steps: When your application is received, our hiring team will review it. If successful, we’ll contact you to arrange an interview. We aim to offer a quick turnaround so that new team members can begin contributing and settling in as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: Do I need to be fluent in both languages used in the nursery?
A1: While full fluency is a plus, it’s more important that you are willing to support bilingual learning. Our setting values staff who can model both languages or who are open to learning. We provide support to help staff feel confident.
Q2: What is the exact working schedule?
A2: This role is for approximately 26.25 hours per week over three days. However, full-time hours may be offered depending on your availability and setting needs. Specific days and hours will be discussed during the interview.
Q3: Are the additional holiday and birthday leave guaranteed?
A3: Yes. In addition to statutory holiday entitlement, you will receive extra paid days for your birthday. Also, the nursery is closed between 23rd December and 2nd January, giving you paid time off during that period.
Q4: What training and progression opportunities are available?
A4: We offer excellent Continuing Professional Development (CPD), chances to advance within the nursery (for example, lead practitioner roles), and opportunities to work towards further qualifications. We also provide ongoing support and mentoring.
